Being Comfortable

Frog in the Kettle

The frog in the keetle became so comfortable in the changing temperature because the temperature was changing very slowly. Because his body adapted to the changing temperature, he did not notice that the water was boiling. Needless to say, the frog dies. There is a lot of truth to this in life.

At church on this past Sunday, the Pastor spoke on being in a groove. His comment was that we sometimes get in such a groove that it becomes a rut. How do I relate this to life and our kids? We sometimes as parents put our kids into a rut by trying to make life to comfortable for them. Not realizing that times are vastly changing from the days in which we grew up. The kids are being exposed to things faster and it has a different approach. Whether it be sex, drugs or etc.

We as parents need to change our way of thinking. Somethings of old are not old. For example, good old fashion discipline. Not that we have to beat our kids but teach them how to be discipline. I am all for if you can afford it, it is your decision to have it. But what if he or she can not afford it, will they have the discipline to not take it. No means no. Will he/she have the discipline to not take it. Company property means company's property. We he or she have the discipline to not take it.

I try to teach our kids "DISCIPLINE". I use somehing that they love to do and incorporate a key value in life. I hope this will help them be successful in all walks of life.

"Relating this to Baseball"

Tarheel Family, lets not get comfortable where we are. Let's continue to raise the bar for this team and our kids. Let's continue work hard and improve. Other teams are working to catch up so let's not be like the frog and get comfortable where are and be surpassed by our competition.
